This tiny PC is changing the lives of graphic designers in a big way

Graphic designers make their living bringing creative ideas to life — and ideas need room to breathe. Which can be a challenge when your workspace is swallowed up by an enormous desktop computer.  Among tech innovations of the last few years, the miniaturization of once-behemoth devices is one game-changer worth celebrating. For creative professionals in particular, whose work involves brainstorms, freelance gigs, and pitches, mobile tech tools are a must-have.  But how about tiny tech that doesn’t sacrifice on power? Enter the HP Z2 Mini, a mini high-performance PC that’s a quarter of the size of a desktop rig, but equally (if not more) powerful. Mount it under your desk, behind your monitor, or rack mount it for total versatility …

You don’t need to update your operating system right away

Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge We published reviews of iPadOS and macOS Catalina yesterday. Despite the fact that the first four paragraphs of my Catalina review were an argument that you should hold off on updating your Mac until you know for sure your apps will work, I still don’t feel I was strenuous enough. Some users missed the memo that 32-bit apps are finally getting left behind. Others didn’t realize that Apple transition from iTunes to Apple Music would burn off a critical backend file format that other DJ apps depended on. Yet more people didn’t realize that they would need to set aside a solid hour to click approval boxes for apps requesting access to newly-restricted …

Finding prices for research

I'm working on a risk review / case study for a security class and part of it is estimating prices for what I want to recommend to install. I'm having trouble tracking down legitimate prices of solutions as everyone wants to sit down with you and give you their pitch before they'll discus price. As a full time night student, father, and full time employee, I don't have time to go through that with every little device. Is there somewhere I can quickly go and find prices for common solutions? For example, I want to install an IDS, Computer World says a CISCO Secure IDS starts at $8000, but I can't find where to verify that price, or what model …

You can no longer install Google apps on the Mate 30 Pro

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro launched without pre-installed Google Services. Soon after the launch, a backdoor was found allowing you to side-load them on the device using the LZPlay app, which is found on Google Play Store. However, this method comes with a risk, according to developer John Wu because it relies on Huawei’s undocumented MDM API so the workaround is no longer an option. The LZPlay app has been pulled off the website and users who have already installed the apps are at risk. Besides, the apps don’t even work anymore. They don’t pass any SafetyNet tests and… Read more:

Here’s Doom running on a McDonald’s cash register

It looks like retro shooter Doom has got a new port – sort of. It appears that one creative player has managed to get id Software’s 1996 FPS working on a pretty unlikely piece of kit – a McDonald’s cash register. As reported by Kotaku, a 19 year old videogamer called Ryan Edgar has posted screenshots of his achievement on Twitter, announcing triumphantly, “Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you DOOM… Running on a McDonald’s cash register.” The site reports that he was allowed to keep an old cash register, which was still operating with Windows XP, after visiting a branch of the fast food chain as they were replacing them with newer models, and then got Doom running on it …

How an AI trained to read scientific papers could predict future discoveries

“Can machines think?”, asked the famous mathematician, code breaker and computer scientist Alan Turing almost 70 years ago. Today, some experts have no doubt that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon be able to develop the kind of general intelligence that humans have. But others argue that machines will never measure up. Although AI can already outperform humans on certain tasks – just like calculators – they can’t be taught human creativity. After all, our ingenuity, which is sometimes driven by passion and intuition rather than logic and evidence, has enabled us to make spectacular discoveries – ranging from vaccines to… This story continues at The Next Web Read more:

iBUYPOWER begins selling its Snowblind cases individually

When it comes to PC building, there are essentially two ways you can go — build the system yourself or pay a premium to have a company assemble it for you. Apple to launch iPad and MacBook with advanced displays in 2020 or 2021, report claims

Apple is planning to launch a high-end iPad and a MacBook somewhere between late 2020 and mid-2021, a new report claims.  According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), these new devices will have a new type of advanced display called Mini LED. We’ve seen something similar in Apple’s Pro Display XDR (which still isn’t available for purchase), but that device only has 576 LEDs, while these new iPads and MacBooks will have around 10,000 LEDs, Kuo claims.  Mini LED is one of several display technologies, alongside OLED and Micro LED, looking to become the new standard for consumer electronics. OLED is great but still suffers from burn-in problems; Micro LED is potentially the most advanced tech but is …

PLAYFIT SW75 Smartwatch Review – Good design at Rs. 2,999/-

10 years back, it was the PC and the various devices around it, these days it’s the smartphone and a bunch of devices around it. From USB to Bluetooth, the smartphone has replaced the PC as the center of our day-to-day lives.
