This Dell 34-inch curved USB-C monitor is almost $400 off

Staring at a computer screen all day can seriously strain your eyes, but a curved monitor can ease that a bit by eliminating distortion. Curvature reduces your eye movement across the screen so that you can work more comfortably for longer. The Dell UltraSharp U3419W is a 34-inch curved monitor with USB-C compatibility and you can grab it at Dell for $703.99, which is almost $400 off the list price. The curved screen improves your field of view, reduces reflections, and creates near-uniform visual focus, which is better for working and for watching video. Throwback Thursday: Testing, testing, testing

Pilot fish and his team are called upon to investigate a large computer that’s running slowly. The problem: users who are just abandoning their sessions on the big machine instead of quitting properly. “We wrote a script that would detect the rogue sessions and kill them off,” fish says. “Then we would report to the manager the names of the users who did not exit cleanly from the session, and the manager would have words with them.” That’s the plan, anyway. Fish warns users that the script has been written and what it’s for. And it works. On the first day the script goes live, it catches a rogue session — which was left hanging by the manager. Microsoft warns 1 million computers are still vulnerable to major Windows security exploit

Microsoft revealed a major Windows security vulnerability earlier this month, that could see a widespread “wormable” attack that spreads from one vulnerable computer to the next. We saw a similar flaw back in 2017 which led to the WannaCry malware causing mayhem for thousands of machines. While Microsoft has released patches for Windows systems, even for older server and Windows XP machines, recent reports have revealed there are at least 1 million systems connected to the internet that can be attacked. “Microsoft is confident that an exploit exists for this vulnerability,” warns Simon Pope, director of incident response at Microsoft’s Security Response Center (MSRC). “It’s been only two weeks since the fix was released and there has… Continue reading… Read …

Tibbits are colorful pre-programmed modules for building IoT devices

At first glance, Tibbits look like building blocks, but each one is a module or a connector that makes it easier to build connected devices and systems. VPNs on sale: Stay safe online for as little as $10

In this era of internet privacy (or lack thereof), much ado has been made about a little something called a virtual private network, or VPN. But what is it, exactly? In a nutshell, a VPN is a service that creates a private, secure internet connection between your computer and a server, which reroutes (and thus conceals) your online activities. It works sort of like “an anonymous middleman that does your browsing for you,” as Mashable’s Monica Chin put it last year. SEE ALSO: Best VPNs to help keep you anonymous on the internet VPNs are gaining traction among individual internet-goers for a few really good reasons: Not only can they hide your browsing behavior on public networks, protecting your data …
